Super Bowl Trailer for Doctor Strange 2 Revealed
“We should tell him the truth…”
The Super Bowl is always a fun opportunity for movie makers to reveal new footage of upcoming films. Thankfully, Marvel marked a spot for the much anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. You can watch the trailer below:
From the looks of the trailer, the main bulk of the story will show Strange dealing with the repercussions of messing with the multiverse. We’re made to believe this is from the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, but could Strange do something in this film that puts him in the middle of everything?
The film will bring Strange into connection with Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch, as he presumably gets her assistance in fixing whatever is wrong with the multiverse. But, something tells us that the captor of Westview will want to use the access to the multiverse for her own gain. Have we forgotten Wanda’s now non-existent sons somehow reaching out to her in WandaVision‘s very last post credits scene?
Maximoff won’t be the only MCU alumni making a return to the screen. We’ll also get Benedict Wong’s Wong, Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo returning from their previous appearances. New additions include Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, who will be the key to the film’s plot of jumping through the multiverse. Literally jumping by the way. Well known in the comics, Chavez is able to transport herself and others into alternate universes by conjuring a star-shaped portal.
Multiverse of Madness is also due to double down on the fan service established in No Way Home‘s multiverse connection. One of which is hinted in toe below screen grab from the above trailer.
Reportedly, this brief moment from the trailer is confirmation of Patrick Stewart’s return as Professor Charles Xavier, this time having him actually exist in the official MCU. That voice does sound like his, but could it be a red herring with this being a variant that has a very good impression going on?
Other rumoured multiverse inclusions include an Iron Man variant in the shape of Tom Cruise, a variant of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and even Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. With a film that is due to venture through the multiverse, anything is possible I guess.
this 28th instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was originally slated to be released May 7, 2021, but was pushed back to November 5 due to, of course, COVID-19. There was then another pushback to March 25, 2022, before then landing on it’s current release date in May.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is due to hit cinemas May 6.
