Sam Mendes film to reunite Sherlock stars in all-star cast
1917 will also include Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden.
It would seem director Sam Mendes, mainly know for his involvement in the two latest Bond films, is hard at work building a stellar cast for his next project. The famed director seems to have brought his Spectre star Andrew Scott and Doctor Strange‘s Benedict Cumberbatch back together since their co-starring roles in the critically acclaimed Sherlock.
The new Sam Mendes film, entitled 1917, is the story of two soldiers on a single day in the middle of WW1 – those two soldiers are to be played by 11.22.63 star George MacKay and Game of Thrones star Dean-Charles Chapman. But…it gets better! The cast then boasts the likes of Shazam!‘s Mark Strong, Mrs Biggs‘ Daniel Mays, The Bodyguard‘s Richard Madden and Kingsman‘s Colin Firth. There is no firm news yet on who everyone is playing but we can just see Mark Strong as the antagonist, right?

The WW1 period-film is set to begin filming this week (April 1) and film across both England and Scotland.
Mendes has co-written the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns who is behind the popular Penny Dreadful, so you know you are in for something special.
1917 is set to hit UK cinemas January 10, 2020 with an earlier release in US cinemas which is December 25 – Christmas day, folks!
