James Gunn is bringing back Jai Courtney’s Digger Harkness/Captain Boomerang for The Suicide Squad
The lines between reboot and sequel are getting more and more blurred…
James Gunn’s plans for the The Suicide Squad may seem more confusing by the day, but nonetheless this is great to hear. Jai Courtney is set to reprise his role as Digger Harkness aka Captain Boomerang.
You should remember Courtney’s portrayal as the Aussie comic book villain, as he was one of the most favourable things about the first Suicide Squad big screen outing. It has recently been unveiled that The Suicide Squad will serve as a follow-up as opposed to a direct sequel of the first Suicide Squad which was released back in 2016.
Margot Robbie is reprising her role as Harley Quinn from the first film, and now so is Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Will Smith’s Deadshot was set to return but it is now being rumoured that Smith is out due to scheduling conflicts, with Idris Elba expected to fill his role.

There is no word yet on if any other cast members such as Viola Davis or Cara Delevingne are returning, but the film is expected to introduce mostly new characters with the film being a relaunch of sorts.
With this not being Gunn’s first time directing a live action feature centred around a group of comic book misfits, it is safe to say that we are in for a Suicide Squad movie that we deserve after David Ayer’s let down instalment.
The Suicide Squad is set to hit cinemas August 6, 2021.
