Into The Speedforce/Batverse!

Ezra Miller’s The Flash solo-film has been in development hell since around 2016, but it looks like everything is set to go, and with very welcome supporting cast members.

According to Vanity Fair, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton are both set to return as their versions of Batman for the film, respectively. It has already been revealed that the film will deal with the backdrop of the Flashpoint storyline from the comics in which Barry Allen travels back in time to save his mother from being murdered, although it will be a new version.

Warner Bros.

Director of the film, It’s Andy Muschietti, had this to say of Ben Affleck’s part in the film:

He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before.

He continued:

It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.

The film is to be featured as the introduction to DC’s Multiverse on the big screen, already being established on TV with the Arrowverse’s Crisis in Infinite Earths, which in fact saw Ezra Miller’s Flash interact with Grant Gustin’s version for a scene.

No doubt the Multiverse aspect will be the reason behind Keaton’s return to the cape and cowl and can explain how Robert Pattinson’s Batman fits into everything, however little is actually known about the former’s involvement at the moment except it’s a “substantial” role. Here’s hoping DC Fandome drops further information.

The Flash has a release date of 3 June 2022, with The Batman set to release 1 October 2021.
