Biggest Star Wars Plot Holes

The Biggest Plot Holes In Star Wars | ScreenHeads

Long, long ago…George Lucas didn’t think about continuity.

Star Wars is one of the most loved franchises around. But, the entire galaxy far, far away is riddled with plot issues. Not tiny, midichlorian-sized plot issues. Big gaping holes that make us almost never forgive the prequel trilogy. That’s right, George Lucas’ Ewan McGregor-fronted trilogy steps on the toes of the original trilogy. How? Well, most Star Wars fans will be aware, but for those who haven’t noticed, let us explain.

Luke’s Surname Is Skywalker…Even Though He’s Supposed To Be Hidden

Revenge of the Sith ends on Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side. With Anakin’s wife dying in child birth, Obi-Wan and Yoda make the decision to send his new born twins into hiding separately. Baby girl Leia is to be taken in by Bail Organa and live in luxury and learn to fashion her hair into inventive shapes. On the side of baby Luke, he is to go and live with his step-uncle and his wife: the Lars family. Henceforth, he shall be known as Luke…Lars.

Nope, that’s not the direction that grumpy Uncle Owen went. Owen and Peru Lars, though they new the danger their nephew could be in should anyone discover who he is, decide to still give him the surname of his father. A strange choice considering they’re suppose to be protecting him.

Also, Owen has an apparent disliking for anything to do with Luke’s lineage from what we see in A New Hope. He dismisses Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi whenever he is mentioned. He won’t even allow Luke to go off to fight for the rebellion. So, why give him this surname? A strange choice, Mr Lucas, considering you were the one with the roadmap to all this! No excuses. Maybe we’ll get insight to this in the Obi-Wan centric Disney+ show?

Leia Remembers Her Mother…Even Though She Died Giving Birth

One that to some fans can be overlooked, but to others is just annoying. Upon discovering Leia is his sister in Return of the Jedi, Luke asks Leia what she remembers of her real mother. Leia says she remembers fragments of her only from when she was very young as she died. She was apparently very beautiful, kind, but…sad. N’awww. Sweet. But hold on! Revenge of the Sith shows Leia’s mother, Padmé, dying giving birth to her. Quite a remarkable memory, huh?

Some fans fashion this into making sense by saying Leia remembers her mother somehow through the force. The force is strong in her family after all, right Luke?

On the whole, it doesn’t naturally fit with what we’ve been led to believe.

Obi-Wan & Vader Don’t Remember C3PO Or R2-D2

A big kick in the teeth for the only characters to appear in every film in the Skywalker Saga. The original trilogy features Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan and Darth Vader being around C3PO and R2-D2 numerous times.

Not once do either of the characters acknowledge their history with the droids. Again, this is all thanks to the writing of the prequels. To do this knowing Obi-Wan literally says he has no recollection of R2-D2 in A New Hope, and have Vader in the presence of the protocol droid he created as a youngster…what gives you the right to toy with us like that, Lucas?

Luke’s Training With Yoda Only Lasts Days

Something small if you’re just here to enjoy the films for what they are, but the actual amount of training? Unless the Jedi council just wanted to stretch out days worth of training to last a decade, we’re lost on this one. Th prequels show Jedi padawans training for years, being taken on as an apprentice to a Jedi knight at some point.

It doesn’t work given the fact Luke can take on Darth freaking Vader after a few days of cardio in a swamp. We all of those padawans robbed of their younger years for zero reason? Unforgivable. Those younglings in Revenge of the Sith could have expertly defended themselves from Vader’s slaughter!

There’s even more plot holes to go through but if we roll down that hill we’ll never stop! Lucas, we love the world you created, but us fans don’t forget!

The entire Star Wars universe can be viewed on Disney+ now.
