What is next for the X-Men and co.?

After months and months of waiting it has finally happened – Disney and 21st Century Fox have officially merged, allowing comic book movies to change forever! Unless you have been living under a rock for over a year, you will know that this gives Disney access to A LOT of material. This includes the remainder of the Marvel superheroes that aren’t already at Disney (except Spidey, but let’s not go down that road), The Simpsons, Family Guy, The Terminator film series and all of Fox’s animated film franchises.

When did this all start?

These rumblings of The House of Mouse obtaining the rights to 21st Century Fox began back in 2017. At the same time, Comcast was also starting to bid for the jewel in Fox’s crown. But now it has been confirmed that as of today all issued and outstanding shares of Fox Corporation common stock will be distributed to 21st Century Fox stockholders. What does that actually mean? Well, 21st Century Fox is now it’s own separate entity! This means it can be free to be owned by Disney!

What Disney can now do

Disney has become a powerhouse in recent years, obtaining the Star Wars franchise with Lucasfilm and of course Marvel Studios. With Indiana Jones, Star Wars and the MCU under it’s belt, how can Disney fit it all in?

With the inevitable introduction of The Fantastic Four, X-Men and Deadpool to the MCU, they will slip in nicely. The final instalment in the current X-Men franchise – Dark Phoenix – is due to hit cinemas this summer, and The Fantastic Four plus Deadpool have no current projects in development.

With Avengers: Endgame out this April, marking the start of a new movement in MCU comic book movies, could we get the new assets from Fox in the mix sooner rather than later? Time will tell.
