Doctor Strange 2 Writer Confirms Deadpool Cameo Nearly Happened | ScreenHeads

“Yeah, of course we talked about it.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been out for only a week. But, already we’re beginning to get tidbits of what could have been in other drafts of the script.

The film was of course plagued with various rumours online before it’s release, with one of them being that the multiverse adventure would finally introduce Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. Well, writer Michael Waldron has now revealed that this idea was tossed around.

Waldron had this to say in an interview with ComicBook.com when the subject was brought up:

Yeah, we talked about it, I think we talked about everything in this movie. So, [it] would’ve been crazy to not raise that, but it ultimately didn’t feel like… It just didn’t feel the right place. But yeah, of course we talked about it.

So, we nearly got that official introduction of Wade Wilson. Alas, it appears we’ll need to wait quite a bit longer until the release of Deadpool 3. It can be assumed that Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth logically would have appeared as a fellow prisoner of the Illuminati alongside Strange and newcomer America Chavez.

The Illuminati of course was the film’s answer to sweet sweet, long awaited cameos. The multiversal superhero team consisted of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier/Professor X, Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter/Captain Carter, Lashana Lynch’s Maria Rambeau/Captain Marvel, Anson Mount’s Blackagar Boltagon/Black Bolt and John Krasinski’s Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic.

Krasinski’s appearance as Richards was the biggest shock as he has no previous link to any Marvel universe, implying he could be playing the variant of Mr Fantastic that we’ll see in the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four. If true, it goes against our own choices for the MCU version of the team already. Krasinski and wife/fellow star Emily Blunt have long been fan favourites to play Mr Fantastic and The Invisible Woman. It seems that Marvel have been listening. Only time will tell to see if they are officially members of Marvel’s first family, but we may need to wait a little longer than expected with the unexpected departure of director Jon Watts.

Watts reportedly left the project to step away from the superhero genre, having steered the ship of the MCU’s/Sony’s shared Spider-Man trilogy.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently showing in cinemas. Fantastic Four currently does not have a release date.
