Stone played Stacey with a lot of heart and earnest. She even nabbed a boyfriend out of the production in the form of her on-screen love interest, Andrew Garfield.
4. Olive Penderghast in Easy A (2010)

Will Gluck’s teen comedy-drama tells the story of a teenage girl whose lie about losing her virginity spirals out of control, causing quite the stir at school.
Playing the title character, we see as Emma Stone really gets to show both her comedy and dramatic strengths. Even from a performance this early in her career, we should have known awards were in this actresses future!

3. Hannah Weaver in Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

Written by This is Us‘ Dan Fogelman, this rom-com tells the story of Steve Carrell’s divorcee being re-introduced to single life by Ryan Gosling’s womaniser character.
Though Stone has a relatively small role, she steals every scene she features in. We also can’t forget her participation giving us the famous photoshop/Dirty Dancing lift scene. This was also her first credit with Ryan Gosling before re-pairing in 2016’s La La Land.
2. Sam Thomson in Birdman Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)

Directed by the phenomenal Alejandro G. Iñárritu, this black comedy-drama tells the story of Michael Keaton’s Riggan Thomson, a faded actor best known for playing a superhero who mounts a broadway production to regain noticeability.
Amongst an ensemble cast that includes Fight Club‘s Edward Norton and The Impossible‘s Naomi Watts, we have Stone as the daughter of Keaton’s character. The illusion of the film appearing as one continuous shot allows Stone to take her recovering drug addict character by the horns and run with it intensely.
1. Mia Dolan in La La Land (2016)

Of course this was going to nab the top spot! This musical romantic drama boasts Stone as a starry eyed upcoming actress alongside Ryan Gosling as a hungry musician with them both trying to break Hollywood.
Not only does Stone brilliantly emulate the real life ups and downs of trying to make it as a performer, but she brings her A-game to every single scene, whether it is a long dance number or crying on queue.
