Idris Elba reportedly set to star in new comic book movie Mouse Guard
Let’s hope it’s not too cheesy.
Another day. Another apparent casting of Idris Elba. The British actor is apparently set to star in yet another comic book movie hot off his involvement in the Thor franchise. But, this is a different type of comic book look, as Elba is rumoured to be signed up for a Mouse Guardfilm.
Never heard of Mouse Guard? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. The Hollywood Reporter has…well, reported that Elba is set to appear in the film as Celanawe, a former member of Guard who was once hailed a hero but has since gone into self-imposed exile, harbouring a hatred for other mice over 30 years.

The Mouse Guard film and award-winning comic book series – launched in 2006 – centres around a medieval setting that shows a parallel world populated by mice humanoids. A minority of these mice are the Mouse Guard, who protect the innocent in the name of truth and justice (and I’d say the American way but DC might smell a lawsuit).
The film has also reportedly cast motion capture legend Andy Serkis (so expect some mo-cap action) and Game of Thrones star Thomas Brodie-Sangster as the characters of the film’s villain and Lieam respectively.
Idris Elba is a fine fit if motion capture is to be involved after his stint as Shere Khan in Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book.
The Mouse Guard film is yet to have an official release day but is set to start filming this May.
