J. J. Abrams Developing Constantine Series For HBO Max
A ‘diverse lead’ is being scouted for the title role
It appears that John Constantine is getting another swing at a solo series. Deadline has reported that J. J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot is in the process of developing a new Constantine series for HBO Max. Guy Bolton is said to have written the pilot episode and a writers room is to open up in March.
It is expected that Abrams’ involvement will connect this series to his planned Justice League Dark series, which has a history of involving Constantine in DC Comics.

The series is planned to stray away slightly from the typical version of the title character. Apparently the story will wash away the middle-aged, blonde caucasian with a Liverpudlian accent. Instead we’ll be getting a diverse lead with a London accent.
The traditional version of the character was met by Matt Ryan’s take on the British exorcist/detective in his short lived series on NBC which ran for one season over 2014-15. The character was however saved by The CW who featured Ryan in a guest appearance on Arrow and then in a regular role in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Aside from Ryan’s version of the supernatural hunter, the character also had a big screen outing with Keanu Reeves in the title role. The film also starred the likes of Rachel Weisz and Shia LaBeouf and was very different from the source material to the point that the character was not even British.
There is no word yet on when the rebooted series will begin streaming, however it can be expected to have a release in 2022.

Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
