Pete’s Dragon‘s David Lowery is set to direct

Jude Law looks to be swapping his wand for a hook soon! The Captain Marvel actor is in talks to play the villainous Captain Hook in Disney’s Peter Pan & Wendy according to Variety.

The film will be a live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1953 animated film about the boy who wouldn’t grow up. In the director’s chair will be David Lowery, a familiar name for people keeping track of Disney’s updated blockbusters; Lowery directed the remake of Pete’s Dragon in 2016. Lowery has co-written the script with Toby Halbrooks, with Jim Whitaker on producing duties. Halbrook also had a credit on Pete’s Dragon as writer, whereas Whitaker is known for producing the likes of 2002’s 8 Mile and 2010’s Robin Hood.

In the roles of the title characters are Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson respectfully. Anderson is also set to appear as a young Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow later this year.

Were Law to be cast, he will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Dustin Hoffman and Jason Isaacs, the former portraying the character in 1991’s Hook and the latter in 2003’s Peter Pan.

Disney have made killing in recent years thanks to their live-action re-imagining of their classic animated films. To name a few include 2015’s Cinderella, 2016’s The Jungle Book and 2019’s The Lion King. 2019’s live-action Aladdin starring Will Smith is already in talks for a sequel.

Law will also see himself stepping into another famous franchise, after his villainous stint in 2019’s Captain Marvel as Yon-Rogg and his role as a young Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts film series. The actor us due to reprise his role as a Dumbledore in 2021’s untitled third outing.

Law was recently seen in Paramount’s Rhythm Section opposite The Age of Adeline‘s Blake Lively. He portrays an MI6 operative who acts as mentor to Lively’s character as she investigates her family’s deaths.

Production on Peter Pan and Wendy was set to begin principle photography in Canada and London on April 17 but production was halted on March 13 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Peter Pan and Wendy currently has no release date set.
