“I had a beginning, middle, and end.”

The Skywalker Saga wrapped up finally with December’s The Rise of Skywalker, and so it is quite fitting when participants in that section of the Star Wars timeline feel it is time to hang up their beige robes and move on. Well, it appears that is what Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill has decided on.

When recently talking to Entertainment Weekly, the Flash actor spoke about how he thinks his tenure with the sci-fi franchise is over.

“Oh, I can’t imagine [returning], no,” Hamill said. “I had a beginning, middle, and end. Those films gave me far more than I ever expected when we started out so it’s never even occurred to me. My farewell was in Episode IX and it was bittersweet.

“I love all those people and I certainly have affection for George [Lucas] and the character he created. I’m full of gratitude for what it has given me and my career but I don’t want to be greedy. There are still so many more stories to tell and so many great actors to tell them, they don’t need me.”

Hamill’s time in a galaxy far, far away was thought to be over and done with in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. However, once Disney acquired Lucasfilm and brought JJ Abrams onboard to carry the franchise into the sequel trilogy, there was room for the Jedi master to make a return. Luke Skywalker then became one with the force (died, basically) in the third act of 2017’s The Last Jedi and made a surprise return as a force ghost (yeah, still dead) in last year’s The Rise of Skywalker.

Although this version of Luke Skywalker may have had it’s day, is there still the chance that we will see a younger version in the upcoming Kenobi series on Disney +?

The entire Skywalker Saga is available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, also being viewable on Disney+, NOW TV and Sky Cinema.
