Battinson Returns…

It’s official; a sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman is currently in the works. Announced at CinemaCon 2022 on Tuesday (April 26), the next instalment will see Reeves return as director, with stars Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz lined up also.

Reeves had this to say at the event:

Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.

A second outing for this new take on the world of Bruce Wayne should come as no surprise to moviegoers. The film totalled up over $760M at the global box office. It also garnered a viewership of more than 4.1M households within it’s first week on HBO Max. The streaming service also has various spin-off shows currently in development. This includes a series centred on Colin Farrell’s Penguin and another on Arkham State Hospital.

There was previously a show to be centred on the Gotham Police Department, however Reeves himself confirmed that this show had been shelved in favour of the Penguin and Arkham shows.

There is no word yet on the plot or characters that will be included in the sequel, but there is some threads to be pulled in this case. We of course had the appearance of Barry Keoghan’s Joker at the end of the film, setting him up for a future appearance. Though it is expected that he’ll not be a direct main villain for this next instalment.

Reeves has noted that he’d like to introduce a grounded version of Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze in this world of Batman. Well then, it’s possible for anyone to pop up in some capacity really.
