This Is Us: Kate's Big Secret Revealed | ScreenHeads

Another secret in the family history of the Pearsons

Since returning to our screens in late October, This is Us has kept viewers on their toes. In this season’s fourth episode, entitled “Honestly”, we are given various threads to keep on pulling as the show progresses. The biggest thread this week was the bombshell of an unearthed secret of Kates.

With Kate and Toby in the midst of adoption, their mother-to-be spoke to Kate about how she almost had an abortion. From there, Kate tells Toby a secret from her youth that no one else knows – not even her family.

It turns out Kate actually fell pregnant during her teen years to mentally abusive boyfriend Marc, resulting in an abortion. Viewers will remember Marc as a recurring character from Season 4’s flashbacks who’s growing relationship with Kate also caused him to become more and more possessive. The relationship was ended abruptly when the couple ventured up the Pearson’s cabin where Marc’s behaviour was caught out by Kate’s mother and brothers.

Though most viewers will have believed that to be the last we saw of Marc, it appears the revelation of Kate’s pregnancy will bring him back on the scene in some captivity from looking at the promo for the fifth episode. It is currently unknown how the rest of the Pearson clan, or Toby for that matter, will react to this shock reveal, though it is expected to become knowledge to all throughout this season.

Elsewhere in this episode, Kevin received criticism from the director of his latest movie project, which led us into the flashbacks of this episode which saw Jack and Rebecca’s parenting of him mould him into becoming quite thin skinned. Also, a live stream gone wrong/viral creates an unexpected connection between Randal and his mysterious birth mother.
