The story of the Pearson family as been on quite a hiatus since Season 5 ended in May. Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait until the sixth and final season begins airing.

The season will consist of 18 episodes, be “largely uninterrupted” with breaks and will tie up all loose ends before it ends. The last we saw of the Pearson clan, Kevin and Madison’s wedding did not go ahead after all, Toby and Kate came to terms with the fact that the former has accepted a job in San Francisco, and Kevin agreed to build Rebecca the house by the cabin that we see in our flash-forwards.

Speaking of flash-forwards, the final scene of Season 5 showed us events half a decade from present day. Randall will be quite a known face in the media, Uncle Nicky will be married, and Kate will be getting married to her currently-grouchy co-worker Philip. A massive twist and a big heart break for shippers of Kate and Toby.

In true This Is Us fashion, the show will continue to give u some heart-wrenching moments. Showrunner Dan Fogelman revealed that one storyline in particular will be hard to bear.

Speaking to EW back in May, Fogelman had this to say:

There’s one storyline that’s one of our stakes in the ground for season six that when I speak about it, my eyes start welling up with tears. And I’m not a crier.

Ouch.
