Tom Holland's Future as Spider-Man Confirmed | ScreenHeads

What direction is Spidey headed in next?

With the MCU’s current Spider-Man trilogy coming to an end with No Way Home, many of us thought it was maybe the end of the line for Sony and Disney’s partnership. However, it has now been confirmed that Spider-Man will not be leaving the MCU anytime soon. Sony producer Amy Pascal has revealed in an interview with Fandango, that No Way Home is in fact NOT the final film for Spidey with Marvel Studios.

Pascal had this to say:

This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie. We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel, it just isn’t part of… we’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.

The news is of course a welcome surprise to everyone given comments made previously. Holland himself said that his contract ends with No Way Home. He even said that if he’s still playing the character when he’s 30 then he believes he’s doing something wrong. The U-turn from Pascal shows that obviously Holland has had a change of heart, but has he?

It is interesting to note that Holland is signed on for the next Spidey outing, but will he be heading it up? Could he be featuring in only the first of the new trilogy to pass the mantle on to a new character? Did someone say Miles Morales?

More will become clear once we’ve seen the final film of the current trilogy which has Sony and Marvel collaborating. Spidey film fans will know that Disney and Marvel Studios don’t actually own the rights to the wall crawler and his side characters. These properties have been in the hands of Sony since 1998, with the company being the soul distributor of Spider-Man films for the era’s of both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
