Top 10 Harry Potter Sequences
Which are the best moments from the Wizarding World?
Throughout it’s eight instalments, the Harry Potter film series had fun with various big sequences from the original books. From directors such as Chris Columbus and David Yates, we got some iconic and unforgettable pieces of cinema that will be exciting to watch forever.
Question is, which are the best? Well, we’ve had a deep look into it and come out with our ten favourites. Keep scrolling to find out which ones made the cut!
10. Fred & George Leave Hogwarts (Order of the Phoenix)

“W”
During the events of Order of the Phoenix, Dolorus Umbridge gets a grip of the way Hogwarts is ran. Her grip then only tightens as Dumbledore is replaced by her. This sets the stage for Hogwarts’ best pranksters, the Weasley twins, to take a stand.
As Harry and the rest of the fifth years are taking their O.WLs, Fred and George cause chaos throughout the great hall, even setting off a firework-structured dragon to chase Umbridge. As you’d imagine, the twins fly off never to return to education again.
With so much murkiness and loss of hope during this section of the film, this scene really adds in some fun and kickstarts our way into the film’s third act.
9. Harry Vs Malfoy (Half-Blood Prince)

“I know what you did, Malfoy…”
The sixth story in the franchise carries a subplot with Draco Malfoy finally moving down a dark path. We may not know what his plans are at first, but we begin to get wind that he maybe isn’t as evil as we’ve always believed. However, our title character can’t see past that.
As Harry goes to confront his school rival over causing fellow Gryffindor Katie Bell to be hexed, a duel quickly breaks out. Harry’s hatred for Malfoy then gets the better of him.
A quick scene, but it’s exciting to see these two finally coming to blows after nearly six years. It also unearths to non-book readers just how malevolent Harry’s mysterious potions textbook really is.
8. Harry Returns To Hogwarts (Dealthy Hallows Part 2)

“Lightning has struck, I repeat, lightning has struck!”
Deathly Hallows has our main trio away from Hogwarts for the most part, so it’s quite a big moment when they finally touch down back in their school.
Being sheltered by Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth in Hogsmeade, Harry, Ron and Hermione are given entrance to a secret passage to Hogwarts, with old friend Neville Longbottom leading the way. Once they reach Hogwarts’ Room of Requirement, they’re quickly greeted by all of their old school mates who are hiding away in there.
A bit of a cheesy scene maybe, but it’s exciting as he jump back to our favourite school of witchcraft and wizardry. This also starts to drum up to the Battle of Hogwarts which is a doozy for any fans of the books.
7. Dumbledore’s Death (The Half-Blood Prince)

“Severus…please.”
Throughout The Half-Blood Prince, Dumbledore plays a much more prominent role than usual. This all leads us up to a weakened Dumbledore having to face Draco (now revealed to be tasked with killing the headmaster) and a team of death eaters atop the astronomy tower.
Nevertheless, Draco finds that he can’t kill, which then leads to the appearance of none other than Snape. In a shocking turn of events (again, for you non-book readers), Snape kills Dumbledore, sending his body hurtling to the ground below.
A really harrowing and tense scene. Though the scene saves Draco’s soul, it (apparently) does the opposite for Snape’s. We also have to deal with that look on Harry’s face and that evil jeering of Bellatrix as she celebrate’s Albus’ death. What a…well, witch.

6. Tri-Wizard Tournament’s First Task (Goblet of Fire)

“Accio firebolt!”
For a lot of reasons, the fourth instalment is epic. Mainly thanks to the tasks of the Trilogy-Wizard Tournament. The first of which really throws young Mr Potter in at the deep end. Though not as much as the second task I guess. Rimshot if you please.
The first task of the tournament has Harry having to steal a golden egg from a dragon that has been tasked which protecting it. Seems simple enough right?
The sequence is pretty rough to watch as Harry is thrown about and barely gets away alive. We obviously know our young wizard is going to live, but it is an adrenaline-filled action sequence that has you flinching from time to time.
5. Harry Vs The Basilisk (Chamber of Secrets)

“Your bird may have blinded the basilisk, but it can still hear you.”
The scene that gave us that iconic sword pose. Upon finally discovering The Chamber of Secrets, Harry finds out the truth behind Tom Riddle and what he is capable of. One of his capabilities includes being in control of a gigantic snake called as a Basilisk.
This leads to Harry having to face off against the creature, eventually fending him off with the sword of Godric Gryffindor.
Not the most action-based, adrenaline-pumping fight ever, but like we said above, it’s so darn iconic. Such a big staple in the franchise.
4. The Graveyard In Little Hangleton (Goblet of Fire)

“The Dark Lord…shall rise…again.”
Everything surrounding Voldemort in Goblet of Fire is pretty terrifying and spooky. Nothing more so than when Harry and Cedric arrive in the graveyard of Little Hangleton. Upon finding the Tri-Wizard cup and expecting to be transported back to Hogwarts as victors, they instead find themselves here where Peter Pettingrew and a near-lifeless Lord Voldemort waiting for them.
In minutes, Cedric is struck dead, Harry is trapped on the gravestone of Tom Riddle Sr. and Voldemort is back fighting fit.
The scene shows us first hand for first time how dangerous Voldemort and his death eaters really are, case in point, the choice to kill young Cedric is done almost without thought. You can’t watch the re-entrance of Voldemort’s power without feeling a tad scared.
3. Harry Vs Voldemort (Deathly Hallows Part 2)

“Come on, Tom, let’s finish this the way we started it…together!”
It all led to this. Deathly Hallows saw Voldemort seemingly win his war against Harry Potter, in killing the young wizard finally. Unbeknownst to both though, Harry was actually an unintended horcrux of Voldemort’s, which was destroyed instead of Harry himself when hit with the killing curse.
Being taken to Hogwarts for Voldemort to taunt everyone with, Harry soon shows he is truly alive and well, which makes for a big battle to the death between the two across Hogwarts’ grounds.
A welcomed and more cinematic change from the showdown that we got in the book. We get to see the two having a truly epic face off which ends in a really dramatic way.
2. The Order & Dumbledore’s Army Vs The Death Eaters (The Order of the Phoenix)

“Get away from my godson.”
Straight after the events of our number 10 spot on the list, Harry and his most loyal members of Dumbledore’s Army head off to the Ministry of Magic to save Sirius from Voldemort’s clutches. However, upon arriving, they find that Voldemort has used his and Harry’s connection to trick the latter into walking into his death eaters who are waiting for him.
From there, the youngsters are almost outmatched by Voldemort’s cronies. That is until Sirius and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix show up and take them on in full force.
The sequence is an all out light show that gives us our first real look at hardcore dueling. This really sets the bar moving forward for the film’s battle scenes and it also ends with one of the most emotional moments in the entire franchise. I’m of course referring to the death of Sirius Black.
1. The Prince’s Tale (Deathly Hallows Part 2)

“…Always.”
It may not be what you expected to nick the top spot, but it deserves it. Upon his death, Severus Snape gives Harry his tears for him to take to the pensieve. Once there, he is shocked by what he discovers in Snape’s past.
It turns out Snape and Harrys mother, were childhood friends, with the former being in love with the latter. Thanks to Severus’ pull to Voldemort’s call and James Potter catching Lily’s eye, the two grew apart. However, upon discovering Voldemort’s intention to kill The Potters later in life, Snape turned to Dumbledore’s side and then played spy for him with Voldemort. From there, we find that Snape’s murder of Dumbledore was planned.
A really heartbreaking sequence that shows us how much Snape had loved Harry’s mother and that he was always protected because of that. The power in how it is shown on screen is truly satisfying. One addition that isn’t in the book, Snape’s presence at the Potter home the night Lily died, is gut wrenching. One of the many examples why Alan Rickman was one of the best actors in the franchise.
