What can we expect from The Flash Season 7?

What can we expect from The Flash Season 7? | ScreenHeads

The season was cut short due to the Coronavirus pandemic

The sixth season of The Flash may have had a premature finale in episode 19, entitled “Success is Assured”, but we are still left wondering how the show will be picked up in January 2021 when season 7 commences.

As we couldn’t wait until closer to the time to discuss, we at ScreenHeads have racked up the most important points to think on as we wait for the next season to begin…

The return of Godspeed

CW Network

Since the opening scene of season 6, there has been a big, white, electrifying question mark over the reappearance of August Heart’s villainous Godspeed.

Aside from his appearance 30 years in the future during season 5, the speedster appeared in the present day…in fact three versions did according to Team Flash during the premiere – each blurting out electronic droning when asked why he was in Central City. The situation was the same during episode 18 “Pay the Piper”, but this version of Godspeed gave few more tidbits of information to think on.

We know that Godspeed is able to drain speed from other speedsters, and that he believes “we” deserve the power of other speedsters. This begs the question of who “we” is. Is Godspeed simply a codename for each member of a cult from the future? Probably not. The main theory leads to one individual: Raijin – God of Lightning.

Raijin is not confirmed to be an official speedster but the armoured villain is able to travel through lightning and he is also said to be the leader of the Black Hole organisation (but more on that later).

With Black Hole being involved in the show’s future and Godspeed apparently being apart of some form of group, it isn’t out of the ordinary to believe that the reappearance of the villain will lead to an unveiling involving Raijin.

More Eva McCulloch/Black Hole

CW Network

Eva McCulloch, our newly fashioned Mirror Master, popped up after the mid-season break of Season 6 and was believed to be a victim within the Mirrorverse, being thrust into it during the particle accelerator explosion (of course). However, it has since been unveiled that for six years she has been plotting her escape and has been gunning to kill her husband Joseph Carver. It is quickly presumable that her power from being exposed to the Mirrorverse for so long will prove helpful in her mission.

The finale of this year seen Eva succeed and unveil that she is alive to the world, taking control of her husband’s company in the process. Though little is known about what what will happen with Eva moving forward, we do know from the press release about Season 7 (which we’ll show you later) that she will be defeated. However, her incoming involvement with secret organisation Black Hole (off the back of her husband’s association) will surely lead to some consequences for Team Flash.

The artificial Speed Force

CW Network

The biggest issue for Barry Allen and his friends leading into Season 7 is the fate of the Speed Force. After the Crisis on Infinity Earths crossover, the Speed Force was ruptured and left our scarlet speedster with a limited amount of speed to use.

Though there were a few attempts for a new, homemade Speed Force to be created before Season 6 was up, we can expect the team to succeed at some point in Season 7. It is probably a given that the artificial Speed Force would have been a reality by the time the current season was over, and Grant Gustin has already mentioned that the final three episodes may be used as the introduction to next season.

Can we expect Barry to have new found power sooner rather than later? Also, what will this new Speed Force entail?

A very different Iris?

CW Network

In the final couple of episodes for Season 6, we saw Iris’ time in the Mirrorverse start to take it’s tole on her. This then led to Mrs West-Allen to disappear in a flash of light.

Though this wasn’t the intended cliffhanger for the season and it has been confirmed the mystery would have been solved just an episode/week later, it does still raise questions as to what is happening to Iris.

Could Barry’s wife be headed down a dark path where her mind becomes warped? Could Season 7 show us a different Iris from the one who was sucked into that mirror? January 2021 has the answers.

Sue Dearbon: wanted murderer

CW Network

Yet another hanging thread that would have probably been resolved by the season’s real end. When Eva McCulloch murdered her husband, she had it pinned on the person who was looking to kill him in the first place: Sue Dearbon.

Though Dearbon had a change of heart and seemed to be gelling quite well with her potential future husband Ralph Dibny (according to the comics at least), it looks like the start of next season will see her trying to clear her name. With Ralph being a detective, could proving Sue’s innocence be the case that sends off some romantic sparks?

A Thawne twist

CW Network

Another tidbit revealed by the team behind this hit show is that the cliffhanger of the season actually would have involved the original big bag himself: Reverse Flash/Eobard Thawne.

Thawne’s last appearance was actually only mere episodes ago, so it is a surprise that the killer of the title character’s mother would already be making a return. We know that Thawne is still out there, but in what form we have no idea.

We had a hint as far back as 2017’s crossover event, Crisis on Earth-X, that the evil speedster could come back wearing someone else’s face, something fans know he has already done before. But, could we be getting something else? Could we meet a young version of Thawne who idolises The Flash and watch how he comes to hate him? Could Thawne be forced to team up with Team Flash for some reason? Again, Season 7 holds the answers.

Yes, eight months seems pretty far away, but thats unfortunately how long we have got until our favourite speedster and his team at Star Labs returns. Until then though, we have San Diego @ Home where we could get a bit more information on what to expect – after all, the first three episodes are technically mapped out, though they’ll probably need to make a few changes to fit them as the start of a season as opposed to the end of a season.

The official season 7 press release reads:

Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with superspeed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash. After a thrilling cliffhanger last season which saw the new Mirror Master (Efrat Dor) victorious and still-at-large in Central City, The Flash must regroup in order to stop her and find a way to make contact with his missing wife, Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton). With help from the rest of Team Flash, which includes superheroes Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer), and Nash Wells (Tom Cavanagh), as well as the Flash’s adoptive father Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), Meta-Attorney Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), tough cub reporter Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton) and brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight)…Flash will ultimately defeat Mirror Master. But in doing so, he’ll also unleash an even more powerful and devastating threat on Central City: one that threatens to tear his team—and his marriage—apart. Based on the characters from DC, THE FLASH is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “Supergirl,” “Riverdale”), Eric Wallace (“Teen Wolf,” “Eureka”) and Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “Supergirl,” “Riverdale”).

The Flash season 7 is due to start airing January 21, 2021.
