Actor Ed Asner Passes Away Aged 91 | ScreenHeads

The actor starred in films such as JFK, Elf and Up

Legendary actor of film and TV Ed Asner has sadly passed away the age of 91, whilst surrounded by his family. His family confirmed the news on his official Twitter page:

Asner had an extensive career spanning over six decades. He was most well-known for his role of Lou Grant in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, but from there he found himself cast in a number of iconic roles.

The actor starred as Santa Claus in the Will Ferrell-led Christmas film Elf, Carl in Pixar’s Up amongst his most famous roles. He even lent his voice to animation in the form of Spider-Man: The Animated Series‘ J. Jonah Jameson and Granny Goodness across various DC animated shows.

More recently the actor starred in the likes of Cobra Kai, Modern Family and Dead To Me.

During Asner’s career, he earned the most Emmy wins out of any male actor and at one point was even the president of the Screen Actors Guild.
