Andy Serkis officially hired as ‘Venom 2’ director

Andy Serkis hired as Venom 2 director - ScreenHeads

Seems perfect for the kind of motion capture, right?

After weeks of wondering if we were being duped into fake news, it would appear that Venom 2 really has found it’s director in mo-cap legend, Andy Serkis.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the Black Panther actor will helm the sequel to the 2018 comic book movie that saw Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock join forces with an alien symbiote to become the famous Spider-Man villain…or in this case, ant–hero.

With motion capture technology being integral to how these films are made, it is easy to see why Serkis is the main man for the job. He recently directed Netflix’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle which saw him direct powerhouse stars such as Vice‘s Christian Bale and The Current War‘s Benedict Cumberbatch as characters for the classic novel.

Little is known about Venom 2 so far except it’s release date (2nd October), but we can expect the returns of leading man Tom Hardy and potential villain Woody Harrelson, who appeared in a cameo at the end of the first film as character Cletus Kasady to hint at the coming of comic book villain Carnage.

Until then, we could potentially see Serkis reprise his role as Supreme Leader Snoke in this year’s final Skywalker Saga instalment, The Rise Of Skywalker. We will DEFINITELY see him making an appearance in next year’s action thriller, SAS: Red Notice, alongside the likes of The Full Monty‘s Tom Wilkinson and Batwoman‘s Ruby Rose.

Venom 2 will be released October 2, 2020. The Rise of Skywalker is to be released December 20, 2019 whilst SAS: Red Notice currently doesn’t have a release date.
