Angus Macfadyen Cast As Jor-El In Superman And Lois
The role was famously played by Marlon Brando and Russell Crowe respectively
It appears that Superman’s birth father is returning to our screens. The upcoming CW show Superman and Lois has cast Scottish actor Angus Macfadyen in the role of Jor-El.
Fan will remember that the role was filled on the big screen first by Marlon Brando in 1978’s Superman, then by Russell Crowe in 2013’s Man of Steel. The character has also been played on the small screen by David Warner and Julian Sands respectively.

The character is said to make his first appearance in episode two of the series once it debuts on February 23. The official description of this version of Jor-El can be read below:
Jor-El is Clark Kent’s Kryptonian father. Though he died along with Krypton, his brilliant essence still exists within the arctic Fortress of Solitude to provide guidance when his son seeks help.

So it appears that we will be getting the traditional backstory of Jor-El having perished with his race but his consciousness continues to guide his son within the ice castle of a Fortress.
Macfadyen’s most noticeable credits include 1995’s Braveheart, 2002’s Equilibrium and 2016’s The Lost City of Z.
Superman and Lois debuts February 23 on The CW, with a UK release date yet to be announced.
