Barry Keoghan Rumoured for Big Reveal in The Batman

Could we be in for a big surprise?

We’re mere months away from the release of The Batman finally, and there’s a lot of rumours flying around as to certain plot points. One that has picked up a lot of speed recently links to actor Barry Keoghan.

From during production, the Irish actor has been listed as playing a character called Stanley Merkel, a GCPC officer. The name does show up in the comics as a partner of future police commissioner, James Gordon. However, many are now saying this is simply a placeholder for his character’s true identity.

Sources are saying that Keoghan is actually set to play none other than Batman’s greatest foe…The Joker. The character has been played in the last decade alone by actors Jared Leto, Cameron Monaghan and Joaquin Phoenix. It now appears there potentially another ready to be covered in white and green.

Rumours say that Keoghan’s portrayal as the Clown Prince of Crime will be a huge reveal in the film and is supposedly being kept heavily under wraps. Possibly not well enough by the looks of things.

The information should be taken with a huge pinch of salt, but it is worth noting some reactions from the film’s test screening. People who were lucky enough to view the film said there is a scene at the end that will have viewers going nuts. Could this be the scene in question? Revealing Keoghan as Batman’s most feared villain?

Keoghan, though he has an exception filmography under his belt already, is no stranger to the world of superheroes. The young actor stars as superhero Druig in Eternals, with his character being able to control people’s minds. Keoghan, along with the rest of the ensemble that includes Humans‘ Gemma Chan and Atlanta‘s Brian Tyrees Henry, is being applauded for his performance. The film itself has built up mixed reviews since its release, but it cannot be faulted for its extremely diverse cast.
