Danny Boyle opens up about exiting Bond 25 - ScreenHeads

“It could have been really good.”

The news that Danny Boyle would be directing the next instalment in the Bond series had fans excited. Many believed the Trainspotting director would put an interesting spin on 007. However, it was not to be as the British director departed Bond 25 last August over “creative differences”, leaving Cary Fukunaga to take up the directing spot.

Boyle recently reflected on his departure when speaking to Empire, stating: “We were working very, very well, but [the producers] didn’t want to go down that route with us. So we decided to part company, and it would be unfair to say what it was because I don’t know what Cary [Fukunaga] is going to do.”

Boyle continues: “What John [Hodge] and I were doing, I thought, was really good. It wasn’t finished, but it could have been really good. You have to believe in your process and part of that is the partnership I have with a writer… Those fundamental partnerships are vital.”

It has been heavily reported since the press tour for Spectre that Bond 25 will be Daniel Craig’s last outing as the secret agent. More recent rumours state that Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Rami Malek is in line to play the film’s villain.

With Fukunaga directing and some changes behind the scenes, we can only wait and see what is next for 007.

Bond 25 – reportedly called Shatterhand – is set to be released April 8, 2020.
