What does Matt Reeves have in store?

It is fair to say that The Batman has not had an easy start. Ben Affleck exited as Director, the release date was kept in limbo, the script kept being rewritten THEN Ben Affleck left again but this time as the title character. But finally, some solid details about the movie – now being directed by War of The Planet of the Apes‘ Matt Reeves – are beginning to reveal themselves.

The first details reveal that The Batman will reportedly be a noir period piece, being set in the 90s and centring on The Dark Knight uncovering a mystery. Reeves has gone on record as saying he wants to show the detective side of Batman in a way that no movie has, and it looks like he’s getting what he wants.

The news beyond that is where it gets really juicy – the villain of the movie is said to be The Penguin, who will be joined by other members of Batman’s rogue gallery. Penguin has been rumoured to be the villain for some time, even being rumoured to be inBirds of Prey before Black Mask was named the villain.

Popular names for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman include The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer and The Bodyguard‘s Richard Madden. However, the casting potential is getting much smaller now that Warner Bros. are reportedly looking for an actor in their late 20s to play the title character.

Popular actors being rumoured for The Penguin include Josh Gad and Nick Frost, who have even thrown their own names into the ring for the role!

With filming said to start before the end of the year we can expect casting news quite soon.

The Batman is set to be released June 25, 2021.
