Doctor Who Series 13 Unveils Teaser Trailer | ScreenHeads

Dan Lewis jumps aboard the TARDIS

With very little news on the thirteenth series being revealed thus far this year, it’s nice to finally get some. Yesterday (25 July) Doctor Who‘s Comic-Con @ Home panel has given us a sneak peak into this years series of the show, following The Doctor, Yaz and new team member Dan Lewis in their travels. Watch the teaser below:

The one minute trailer offers some quick shots of the upcoming adventures for Team TARDIS and it looks like they’re in for a wild ride! We also get our first proper look at John Bishop’s Dan Lewis in action. It was revealed that he was joining the series back on New Years Day. He joins Jodie Whittaker Doctor and Mandip Gill as a trio for the action-packed outing.

Not much yet is known about the stories for this series, however showrunner Chris Chibnall did offer some little hints:

I can tell you that we pick it up with the Doctor and Yaz who have been travelling together for some time and we come and meet them mid-adventure. Then they stumble across a man called Dan Lewis.

There will also be a big shift in the show’s format. This series will be told as one continuous story according to Chibnall:

I can tell you that the big thing that we’re going to be doing this year is that it’s all one story, so each episode is a chapter in a bigger story. So we’ve changed the shape of the series for this year.

Little else is known about the show, except that Game of Thrones alumni Jacob Anderson will join the show. He will feature in a recurring role as a character called Vinder.

Anderson had this to say about joining the sci-fi classic:

The Doctor has been a part of my life forever, from watching and rewatching the serials on VHS as a kid and being terrified, to unexpectedly finding my eyes watering when the Tenth Doctor said “I don’t want to go”, I always wanted to live in the Whoniverse.

Not only has a lifelong dream of mine now been fulfilled, but to be playing a character as fun, adventurous, and dynamic as Vinder is the cherry on top. This is very cool.

The panel seemed like the perfect opportunity for Whittaker to also address those exit rumours from earlier this year. Nonetheless, we are none the wiser as to whether or not the actress is stepping away from the TARDIS console. Could we be in for our first ever shock regeneration?

In recent months, Its a Sin‘s Ollie Alexander was reportedly in final talks to replace Whittaker. This was however quashed by his manager who made it clear that this was purely speculation. But…can we really trust anyone in the world of Fandom?

Doctor Who will return later this year on BBC One.
