First Trailer For Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Released

“Off to save the world, are we?”

We’re a matter of months until the release of the third Fantastic Beasts film. It’s about time a teaser got released for it right? Warner Bros. have promptly given us our first taste of what to expect from The Secrets of Dumbledore. You can watch the trailer below:

Set years after the events of The Crimes of Grindelwald, Newt Scamander, Albus Dumbledore and their friends work to fight off the evil Gellert Grindelwald (now played by Rogue One‘s Mads Mikkelsen) and bring about the end of the first Wizarding War.

The trailer reveals some interesting details. We get a first look at the new Grindelwald of course, which now holds no aesthetic mirroring to Johnny Depp’s take on the character. Mikkelsen previously revealed that his take on the dark wizard would be his own and he’d steer clear of Depp’s performance out of respect for the actor.

We surprisingly get the introduction of a younger Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus’ brother played here by The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s Richard Coyle. The character was portrayed previously by Jim McManus in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and more prominently by Ciaran Hinds in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The brothers are known to have a fractured relationship since their sister’s death, with Grindelwald being at the centre of their disagreements. With Aberforth known to join The Order of the Phoenix at some point, could he do so in this outing?

There’s Credence’s new look as he goes head to head with Albus, and we also for the first time ever see a muggle wielding magic, with Newt bestowing Dan Fogler’s Jacob with a wand. This will be sure to divide fans across the globe for sure!

Other returning cast members include:

• The Flash‘s Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone ( or Aurelius Dumbledore, we’ll know for sure soon enough)
• The Last Full Measure‘s Alison Sudol as Queen Goldstein, Jacob’s love interest and current companion of Grindelwald
• Emma‘s Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander, Newt’s brother
• Steve Jobs‘ Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Newt’s love interest and future wife

The official premise for the film reads as follows:

“Set in the 1930s, the story leads up to the Wizarding World’s involvement in World War II and will explore the magical communities in Bhutan, Germany and China in addition to previously established locations including Brazil, the United States and United Kingdom. With Grindelwald’s power rapidly growing, Albus Dumbledore entrusts Newt Scamander and his friends on a mission that will lead to a clash with Grindelwald’s army, and will lead Dumbledore to ponder how long he will stay on the sidelines in the approaching war.“
