Tom Holland Cast in Fred Astaire Biopic
He’s set to star as the iconic performer
Looks like our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is about to swap his web shooters for some top-notch dancing shoes. Holland has now been confirmed as the lead for Sony’s upcoming biopic centred on Fred Astaire. Nothing is known as of yet about the plot, but we do know it will be the No Way Home actor who fills the lead role.
Amy Pascal previously noted that she wanted Holland for it, but it wasn’t until an interview with AP promoting his upcoming Spidey flick that the 25 year-old actor had this to say:
The script came in a week ago, I haven’t read it yet; they haven’t given it to me. She [Amy Pascal] FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath, and we had a lovely FaceTime, but I will be playing Fred Astaire.

This role seems to sit quite comfortably into Holland’s skillset. The young actor started off his career on the West End playing the title role in Billy Elliot: The Musical. This was between 2008 and 2010. Holland is also known for his fluid, gymnastic abilities that he also brings to his Spider-Man role.
Astaire is known as one of the most iconic performers in show business. Having appeared in over 30 films and having a career than spanned over seven decades, the dancer/singer/actor also took to Broadway and the West End. He also formed a strong working relationship with fellow performer Ginger Rogers in films such as Swing Time, The Gay Divorcee and Top Hat.
Holland can of course be seen in his latest work, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is currently taking the world by storm and is on track to break some box office records.

Sony’s untitled Fred Astaire biopic is yet to get a release date.
