John Cena Reveals He’s Open to Playing The Thing in MCU’s Fantastic Four

“I like to keep my perspective open to new things.”

After a website recently suggested wrester-turned-actor John Cena would be the right fit for The Thing in Fantastic Four, the star confirmed his thoughts on the idea.

During an appearance on Esquire’s YouTube show, Explain This, one segment that Cena was questioned about an article from MovieWeb. The article was titled “John Cena Would Be Perfect as the Thing in Marvel’s Fantastic Four Reboot.”

When asked if he’d be open to the idea, Cena had this to say:

I would consider most any-thing. I think keeping yourself open to options and different perspectives is a good way to go about life. This would simply be a thingthat I would consider, because I like to keep my perspective open to new things.

Cena is of course no stranger to the comic book world, having played super villain Peacemaker in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The character is also set to have his own TV series, which is due to drop in early 2022.

Two actors have played The Thing on the big screen previously, with Michael Chiklis playing the character for 2005’s Fantastic Four and it’s 2007 sequel. It’s ill-fated reboot in 2015 had Rocketman‘s Jamie Bell take up the character in a more CGI-heavy version.

Little is known about the MCU’s version of Marvel Comics’ first family, except that Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Jon Watts will be directing. We also have the film’s logo to hype over as well.

No casting announcements are out there for the film yet, but the likes of Emily Blunt, John Krasinski and Zac Efron are fan favourites to star.

The Suicide Squad is currently in cinemas and streaming on HBO Max in the US. The MCU’s Fantastic Four currently does not have a release date.
