Joker Sequel Officially in the Works

A working title has also been revealed
It’s been a couple of years worth of rumours, but we finally have confirmation. A sequel to 2019’s Joker is officially in development.
The news broke straight from director Todd Phillips’ Instagram account with the below post:

The post shows the front of the vibrant red script with the title, which reads Joker: Folie à Deux. It also credits Scott Silver and Phillips as the writers, who both wrote the original film. The second image on the post, which fans will be happy to know, has Joaquin Phoenix himself reading the script. Looks like Arthur is definitely back to cause chaos in Gotham!
For those wondering, Folie à Deux translates as “a delusion or mental illness shared by two people in close association.” Let the theories begin I say!
The first film centred on jobbing clown/aspiring comedian, Arthur Fleck, who suffers from a condition that triggers uncontrollable laughter. Through horrid treatment from society in 1980s Gotham City, we watch Fleck’s transformation into Batman’s most notorious arch enemy.

The first film was originally intended as a standalone, character-driven feature film with no intention for sequels or spin-offs. However, it seems that after multiple Oscar wins and favourable reviews, Warner Bros. have pushed enough for a second instalment to come to fruition.
Little is known about the plot or any other returning cast members, but it can be expected that details will drip through as development continues.
Joker: Folie à Deux currently has no release date.
