Matt Reeves Reveals First Look At New Batman Costume

‘Dark & moody’ is an understatement.

The time has come: we finally have our first look at Robert Pattinson’s suit for 2021’s The Batman.

The film’s director – Rise of The Planet of The Apes‘ Matt Reeves – unveiled camera footage of Pattinson as The Crusader on Thursday (February 13) through his Twitter account. Look below to see the footage:

the mask appears to give a more traditional, low-tech look that reminisces Adam West’s Batman look in a way, partnered with metallic body armour that seems to take inspiration from the Arkham Knight video game. We also get a new style of bat symbol with what appears to be gun parts that fit together to create wings – potentially made from the gun that killed Bruce Wayne’s parents?

The footage surprisingly gives a small portion of composer Michael Giacchino’s score for the film. Giacchino is known for his scores on blockbusters such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Super 8.

Filming for The Batman kicked off in January, with Pattinson beginning work as a new version of Billionaire Bruce Wayne/crime fighting vigilante The Batman. Pattinson’s casting was announced last year in the wake of former-Batman Ben Affleck’s departure from the project.

The film is also set to star Big Little Lies‘ Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, 12 Years a Slaves‘ Paul Dano as Edward Ashton/The Riddler, War for the Planet of the Apes‘ Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Source Code‘s Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Saving Mr Banks‘ Colin Farrell as Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot/The Penguin, Transformers‘ John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Green Lantern‘s Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson.

The Batman is due to hit cinemas June 25 2021.
