New ‘Rise of Skywalker’ trailer and poster drops at D23 Expo

“Your journey…nears its end.”

Disney‘s D23 Expo gave us a lot to get excited about. We got fresh news on the world of Marvel, confirmation of a Ewan McGregor returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi and our first trailer for The Mandalorian. Now, we’ve got some info on the biggest corner of the Star Wars Universe in the form of a new The Rise Of Skywalker trailer.

The first trailer gave us a lot to talk about (THAT recognisable cackle being one of them) but THIS trailer takes it to a whole other level. Take a look at the new footage, which also honours the history of the Skywalker Saga, below:

The trailer gives us a lot to talk about. We get our first moving image of Naomi Ackie’s new character, we get a new look at Carrie Fisher’s General Leia returning through archive footage, then…what’s this!? the trailer ends with Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren and Daisy Ridley’s Rey really going at it in a lightsaber dual. We then hear Ian McDiarmid’s Darth Sidious/Emperor/Sheev Palpatine/Ultimate Bad Guy of The Galaxy saying “your journey…nears its end.”

Then the ultimate shock. We see a dark hooded Rey wielding a glittering red lightsaber that then flicks out to be a dual-headed design! What does this mean for our force user? Has she finally cracked and gone rogue? Is it a vision? Is it a glimpse into the future? All will be told in December.

The Rise of Skywalker hits UK cinemas December 19 and US cinemas December 20.
