The DCEU’s Top 10 Sequences (So Far)

The DCEU’s Top 10 Sequences (So Far) | ScreenHeads

The DCEU may have had it’s stumbles since being established back in 2013, but it’s fair to say that it’s had it’s epic moments. Whether it’s a character doing their own thing or an all out face off, Warner Bros. have ensured that the characters of DC Comics have had some pretty cool moments on the big screen, even if the overall results haven’t been perfect.

We’ve put together our top sequences that deserve some praise and prove why the films of the DCEU are worth at least a single go. Keep scrolling and have a read!

10. Batman & Superman Face Off (Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice)

Something that should have been higher, but unfortunately Warner Bros. slightly hit the mark on this one.

Dawn of Justice saw the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight face off on the big screen for the first time ever. As much as everyone was let down slightly by the showdown, the fact it exists is amazing in itself. We watch as Ben Affleck’s hulking Caped Crusader dukes it out with Henry Cavill’s muscle bound Kryptonian.

With the inclusion of kryptonite, the playing field is levelled slightly and it makes for a good fight. It’s just a shame that they only fight the once and that it ended on such a ridiculous notion of both their mother’s sharing the same name. we don’t forget, Warner Bros.

9. Harley Escapes (The Suicide Squad)

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn has become a standout within this universe. Though she’s had some great moments, this has to take top spot for her as a character.

Whilst imprisoned by the government of Corto Maltese, Harley single-handedly mounts her own escape and takes down anyone in her path whilst on her way out.

The harley-esque effect of tweety birds and flowers erupting from everyone she impales or stabs. The use of I Ain’t Got Nobody by Louis Prima. It’s something that without these inclusions probably wouldn’t be as fun as it is. A real thrill ride in a thrill ride of a movie.

8. Superman Vs Zod (Man Of Steel)

A face-off fans had been waiting for for decades.

It was no secret that Supe fans wanted to see a live-action Superman going toe to toe with someone. The Christopher Reeve era couldn’t give that effectively, and Brandon Routh’s single solo outing just…didn’t bother.

Man of Steel‘s big fight between Kal-El and General Zod sees the pair tire each other apart after the former sends all of Zod’s Kryptonian army award for good. Zod, in return, responds with his fists as they wreck half of Metropolis and literally duel to the death (which was met with quite a lot of controversy).

All in all, take out the political, real life issues it causes, and this is a pretty decent scrap. Just a shame that for this take on the DCEU, the political, real life issues really do matter.

7. The Beach Of Corto Maltese (The Suicide Squad)

A really out there movie needs a really out there opening, right?

James Gunn pulled no punches when he brought his take on the Suicide Squad to life back in 2021. He made sure to emphasise that this group of inmates tasked with putting their lives on the line can really be taken out at any second.

The film’s promotional material boasted of a large roster of villains for Task Force X…however a surprising amount of them, including Pete Davidson’s Blackguard and Nathan Fillion’s TDK. Something we probably could have guessed, but a really smart way of setting the tone of the film and telling us that no one is safe. As Gunn said, “don’t get too attached”.

6. Diana Enters No Man’s Land (Wonder Woman)

Every film has it’s key moment. Here is Wonder Woman‘s.

Once Diana reaches the front with Steve Trevor and his team, she decides she must do something to defeat the Germans. In probably one of the most iconic scenes in the DCEU so far, she heads over the top into No Man’s Land and single handedly takes on the opposition.

Not only is it symbolic of the character’s strength and bravery, but just a very cool moment for anyone who’d been longing for a solo female superhero flick. A great way to fully introduce the character’s power in her own standalone film.

5. Wonder Woman Enters (Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice)

Yeah, the No Man’s Land scene is badass, but Diana’s first real intro? Forget about iiiit.

Once Supes and Bats kiss and make up, they go to take on Lex Luthor’s human/Kryptonian deformed Doomsday. As they take on the beast, and are almost bested, in flies none other than the Amazonian princess/warrior herself.

The music, the way she doesn’t even flinch and the way Gal Gadot holds the character is amazing. Plus you can’t not love that moment where all three heroes are in the frame together. Pretty cool.

4. Barry Saves Iris (Zack Snyder’s Justice League)

Why, oh why, would this be cut from the theatrical release?

In Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League, we got a much more fleshed out look at Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen. In this film’s version of his introduction, Allen is at a random, low-key job interview when he forced to save (a currently unknown to him) Iris West from a mater car crash just outside.

The use of really cool CGI and movement to show this version of Allen’s super-speed. Even the sweet use of Rose Betts’ Song to the Siren is a romantic nod to Barry and Iris’ relationship moving forward. A much better first look at the character that speed-doodling on a man’s face for sure.

3. Warehouse Fight (Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice)

The best Batman fight of any film, surely?

SPOILER ALERT! Not only does Batman and Superman shake hands during Dawn of Justice, but the former makes a promise that he’ll save the latter’s Earth mother, to make sure one Martha mother won’t perish. Not only does The Bat save her, but he does it in true Batman style.

Affleck’s Batman really gets to shine here, as he brutally crawls with the gang holding Ma Kent hostage. There’s bones being broke. Blood every where. Definitely a few deaths (sorry, but I can deal with it here). We get to truly see why this version of Batman is so feared and is not to be tangled with. I know Matt Reeves’ take on the character is going for the brutal takedowns as well, but this is going to hard to top.

2. Bruce In Metropolis (Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice)

The best thing we get to see in Dawn of Justice. Hands down.

After the dark credits sequence centred on Batman’s classic origins, we skip forward to the events of Man of Steel‘s final battle. Except this time, we’re seeing it from the perspective of Bruce Wayne. Unfortunately, he has to watch as a friend dies in a Wayne Enterprises building, watch a young girl point to a torn down building as he asks where her mother is, and also lift a now-crippled employee from under rubble.

A really powerful way to introduce us to Ben Affleck’s take on the billionaire-turned-vigilante. Not only does it connect the film to Man of Steel, but it also gives firsthand insight as to why Wayne loathes Superman and is bent on taking him down. If only the rest of the film was as effective yet simple to watch as this.

1. Barry Runs Back In Time (Zack Snyder’s Justice League)

And here’s our favourite of the lot.

Yet another Barry Allen moment that didn’t deserve to be cut from Justice League‘s theatrical cut. As the League work to take down Steppenwolf’s scheme, in an unlikely event, they fail. As the mother boxes explode, taking down everyone with them, Barry sees the blast coming and uses his abilities to stop it and reverse the events.

In a really poetic, eyes-glued-to-the-screen scene, we watch as Barry literally runs back in time. With a powerful musical score and a more grounded, serious Barry Allen (something we expect to see more of moving forward for certain moments), this makes for one of the best moments from the entire universe so far. And to think that we could have never seen this. Unforgivable.
