Our Top 5 Episodes Of Atlanta (So Far)
“Paper boi, paper boi, all about that paper, boy…”
Donald Glover’s unique comedy drama is coming at us with a third and fourth series, but what are the top episodes of Atlanta so far?
We at ScreenHeads are counting down our top 5 whilst we wait on more episodes to drop from Gambino and co.
5. Go for Broke (1×03)

We know from the start that Glover’s Earn is as broke as you can get. But this episode highlights it as much as ever.
Earn offers to take Van out on a date, but finds that having next to nothing on pay day and an upselling waitress can get in the way of them having a good time. The opening scene in the fast food restaurant and Earn’s expression every time his and Van’s waitress rudely ups their bill is priceless.
“Can I get a kids meal?”
4. The Club (1×08)

What happens when you’re a push over but you’re also the manager of a rapper?
“The Club” shows Earn trying to Alfred’s pay for a club appearance, with the club owner smoothly ducking and diving to avoid doing so. Whilst Alfred/Paper Boi tries to enjoy the spoils of being relatively famous, Earn tries to grow a backbone and when they do get their pay…funny results.
“Damn…that boys gonna be a star“

3. Teddy Perkins (2×06)

A left field episode that fans won’t have expected to see.
This experimental horror episode sees Darius headed out to the home of the mysterious Teddy Perkins (played by Donald Glover…seriously) to pick up a piano. With tense moments, amazing dialogue and an unrecognisable Glover, this deserves its place on the list.
“Sacrifices are necessary, Darius”
2. North of the Border (2×09)

An episode where a lot of threads from the show so far begin to get tied up.
“North of the Border” has the team headed to a pyjama party for Alfred’s next gig. Unfortunately, troublemaker Tracy comes along and Earn couldn’t book a hotel room – trouble of course ensues.
slow mo pushes down the stairs. Obsessive/psychotic fans. Fraternity pledges. This outing is off the scale.
The episode sees Alfred finally reveal his doubts about Earn’s managerial role, and Earn also finally comes to blows with Tracy in one of the most realistic and uncomfortable scenes the show has produced.
“Al, pull the car over so I can beat this n**ga”
1. Barbershop (2×05)

The top favourite goes to the simplest but funniest episode of the lot.
Alfred just wants to get his hair trimmed. Unfortunately, his barber has some stuff going, which has Paper Boi being dragged across Atlanta on some kind of wild goose chase.
Throughout the episode, we see as Alfred’s patience wears more and more thin and his barber, Bibby, chatters on constantly trying to justify the mad cap adventure of doing another haircut, stealing lumber and giving a prep talk to youths…amongst other things. This could almost play out as comedy film. Easily the funniest outing of the show so far.
“Man, fuck that, man! Finish my hair!”
