Warner Bros. Reveals Actresses Testing For Batgirl

The chosen actress will front the character’s solo film

A list of DC films may already be in the pipeline, but that isn’t stopping Warner Bros. from prepping beyond. Deadline has reported that Warner Bros. are currently setting up screen tests for a shortlist of actresses. The list includes Zombieland: Double Tap‘s Zoey Deutch, Instant Family‘s Isabella Merced, and In the Heights‘ Leslie Grace.

Split‘s Haley Lu Richardson was also included however it is reported that she has passed on the deal already.

Whoever is chosen will portray the Barbara Gordon version of the character in the upcoming film. The film is set to stream on HBO Max as its first DC movie to debut on the streaming service.

In the comics, Barbara Gordon is shown as the daughter of Batman’s ally Commissioner James Gordon. In various incarnations, she develops a romantic relationship with Dick Grayson/Robin or Bruce Wayne himself.

One confirmed casting for Barbara Gordon is Savannah Welch, who is set to play the character in the third season of Titans this Summer. We imagine this version of the character will be very different from the upcoming film version.

Welch’s Barbara will have hung up the crimefighting days years earlier after The Joker left her wheel bound just like The Killing Joke comic book storyline. Though that will not have stopped her from following in her father’s footsteps and becoming the Commissioner of police in Gotham City.

Batgirl has no HBO Max release date as of yet, however Titans‘ third season is scheduled to begin streaming August 12.
