Justice League Originally Included Shock Relationship
A superpower love triangle?
Even with Zack Snyder’s Justice League officially on its way to us, it appears that there are still some story ideas that will never see the light of day. One of which is sure to surprise fans as it would have focused on Ben Affleck’s caped crusader falling in love with Amy Adams’ Lois Lane. Yes, really.
Vanity Fair recently did a profile of Snyder which went deep into the road that led to his cut of Justice League. It’s here that we learn about the nixed subplot from the Man of Steel director himself.

The intention was that Bruce fell in love with Lois and then realized that the only way to save the world was to bring Superman back to life – So he had this insane conflict, because Lois, of course, was still in love with Superman. We had this beautiful speech where [Bruce] said to Alfred: ‘I never had a life outside the cave. I never imagined a world for me beyond this. But this woman makes me think that if I can get this group of gods together, then my job is done. I can quit. I can stop.’ And of course that doesn’t work out for him.

Quite an eye opener to say the least. It also begs the question of whether or not this thread – had it existed – would have followed on into subsequent Justice League sequels.
Remember in Dawn of Justice when a future Barry Allen reaches out to present day Bruce telling him Lois Lane is “the key”? Then the Knightmare sequence featuring a murderous Superman who says to a captured Batman “she was my world…and you took her from me”.
Before now many fans would theorise that Batman somehow attributed to the death of the Daily Planet reporter, leaving Supes pretty miffed. However, is it possible that Snyder was laying the groundwork for Bruce’s infatuation and that it would have had Lois returning this feelings? If so, it would give weight to Superman’s allegiance to Darkseid.

Unfortunately, we’ll never know. However, we can still be excited for Snyder’s upcoming cut that will include a new look for Jared Leto’s Joker.
Zack Snyder’ Justice League hits HBO Max on March 18.
