Ewan McGregor returning as Obi Wan Kenobi in Disney+ series
Hello there…again
Coaxing Ewan McGregor back to the Star Wars Universe as Obi-Wan/Ben Kenobi has been a fan’s dream for over a decade. Now, finally, it looks like it is a reality. It has been revealed by Deadline that the idea of Ewan McGregor returning to a galaxy far, far away is almost fact, with the 48 year-old actor in deep talks to reprise his iconic role.
With The Mandalorian not even released yet and already having a second series green-lit, it would appear that Disney is quite serious about expanding on the Lucasfilm property.

Nothing is known as of yet about the show’s plot, but it is rumoured to consist of 6 to 8 episodes. An Obi-Wan Kenobi centric film long rumoured to be the next anthology film released after Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, it is believed that due to Solo‘s poor performance at the box office, Kenobi’s potential story was shelved.
McGregor took over the role from the great Alex Guinness, who introduced us to the all-force-knowing, wise Jedi mentor of Luke Skywalker in 1977’s Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. McGregor’s younger take on the character in the Star Wars prequels shown him grow to be the master of Anakin Skywalker and eventual enemy of his Sith alter ego, Darth Vader.
With Disney’s Star Wars projects currently in a queue, there is no telling when McGregor could be taking up the blue lightsaber again. The Mandalorian is due for release this November with another series in the works. The Rise of Skywalker is still to have it’s release this December to round off the main Skywalker saga. Then there is also Rain Johnson’s film trilogy to be released within the next 5 years, plus a Disney+ show centred on Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor, once again to be played by Diego Luna, which is also already in development.

The Mandalorian is released on Disney+ November 12, whilst The Rise of Skywalker hits UK cinema screens December 19 and US screens December 20.
