Zawe Ashton Cast As Captain Marvel 2 Villain

But who exactly is she playing?

Captain Marvel 2 is rounding out it’s cast by adding another name to the list. Deadline reports that Velvet Buzzsaw‘s Zawe Ashton will be facing off with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers in the upcoming sequel. Though Ashton has been cast, it is yet to be revealed with big bad she will be appearing as specifically.

2019’s Captain Marvel gave us an origin story for the title character set in the 90’s. We watched as she teamed up with Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury to take down an army of Skrulls and later Jude Law’s Yon-Rogg. With the character’s next appearance taking her to the present day in Avengers: Endgame, fans are eager to know what time period the Marvel character’s sequel will be set in.

Other confirmed stars for the sequel include Teyonah Parris as an older Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. The former is currently featured in Disney+’s WandaVision whilst the latter is due to feature in her own Disney+ series. The film is to be directed by Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta with a script written by Megan McDonnell who wrote various episodes of WandaVision.

The internet is already rife with theories of who Ashton could be playing for her villainous role. The main choices are tipped as Una-Rogg, Queen Veranke and The Matriarch.

Ashton’s other notable roles include 2016’s Nocturnal Animals alongside Amy Adams and TV series Wanderlust alongside Tony Collette.

Captain Marvel 2 is set to release theatrically November 11, 2022.
