Ben Affleck Says 'The Flash' Contains his Favourite Scenes as Batman | ScreenHeads

“It was really fun and really, really satisfying and encouraging…”

Ben Affleck has played the DCEU’s version of Bruce Wayne since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice back in 2016. Portraying an older, hardened take on the character was very refreshing for fans. But alas it was not to be as long term as we’d hoped. After the flop that was Justice League in 2017 and various personal problems, Affleck is stepping down as the caped crusader. That is, after one last bow in upcoming DC movie The Flash. The film will see his Bruce Wayne partner with Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen one last time.

The Oscar-winner has now commented on his portrayal in his final flick, and named it his favourite as the character.

He had this to say when speaking to The Herald Sun:

I have never said this — this is hot off the presses — but maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done were in the Flash movie. I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting — different, but not in a way that is incongruent with the character.

The actor continued:

Who knows? Maybe they will decide that it doesn’t work. But when I went and did it, it was really fun and really, really satisfying and encouraging, and I thought, ‘Wow — I think I have finally figured it out.

To hear that Affleck enjoyed his final outing as the character of course has us excited for what he has to give in the film. But it still doesn’t take away from his experience on Justice League.

The star has been open about his thoughts on making the film, recently having the following to say when speaking to The Los Angeles Times:

It was really “Justice League” that was the nadir for me. That was a bad experience because of a confluence of things: my own life, my divorce, being away too much, the competing agendas and then Zack’s personal tragedy and the reshooting. It just was the worst experience. It was awful. It was everything that I didn’t like about this. That became the moment where I said, “I’m not doing this anymore.” It’s not even about, like, “Justice League” was so bad. Because it could have been anything.

Affleck also won’t be the only Batman appearing in The Flash, thanks to Michael Keaton returning. This will mean Keaton returning to his take on the role for the first time in 30 years. With that in mind, what could we get from each version of Mr Wayne?

The Flash hits cinemas November 4, 2022.
