Blue Beetle Movie Casts Titular Character

Looks like the Blue Beetle solo movie has taken a big step in casting. It has been reported that Cobra Kai‘s Xolo Maridueña has scored the lead role of Jaime Reyes. Very little is known about when the cameras will start rolling on the DC character’s big screen outing, but it is expected to begin after Maridueña has finished press for Cobra Kai‘s fourth season later this December.

Many comic book fans will know that this marks the first Latino superhero to get their own solo outing. Maridueña’s other credits include TV show Parenthood from 2012 until 2015. He also had a guest spot on the Rush Hour TV series.

The usual origins of Reyes’ version of Blue Beetle centre on the youngster acquiring a mysterious scarab that attaches itself to his spine and facilities him with a blue armour that can spout weapons and give him abilities such as super speed and strength.

Reyes was previously portrayed on screen by Jaren Brandt Bartlett in a 2011 episode of Smallville. This seen the character end up partnering with Booster Gold, a counterpart of his from the comics.

Charm City Kings’ Angel Manuel Soto is in the director’s chair for the movie as previously revealed, and the upcoming Scarface remake’s Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer on writing duties.

Blue Beetle currently does not have a release date set.
