The Flash “Kills Off” Major Character
But are they really gone?
The Flash Season 8’s crossover event, Armageddon, is only a few episodes in and it is already making waves in Barry Allen’s life. After last week’s episode revealed who has been disrupting our hero’s life to put him on a collision course with crossover villain Despero, the week previous did something a bit more surprising.
In the closing moments of episode 3, Barry suggests everyone goes to Joe and Cecile’s place. As he says this, everyone is shocked. It is then revealed that Joe West, Barry’s father-in-law/surrogate father, in fact died 6 months earlier. The even bigger shock? Somehow Barry doesn’t remember. This then leads us to Barry experiencing another memory blank/evil rampage, which he also doesn’t remember, and the appearance of Black Lightning at the Hall of Justice to help our speedster out.

The death of Joe West was a pulling of the rug moment to say the least. It then became the main focus of episode 4 as Iris starting looking into strange circumstances around her father’s sudden death. It was also slightly hinted at throughout the first couple of episodes through drip feeding. But, is all as it seems? Now that we know a certain someone has been pulling the strings to mess with Barry’s life (we won’t spoil that for people not up to date – it’s worth finding out first hand), it is possible that the matriarch of the West family isn’t gone after all.
It’s also worth mentioning that the man behind the character, Jesse L. Martin, is in fact signed on to appear in Season 8. This could mean a couple of things. Either the show will be wiping away his death and he’ll be back before you know it. Or they will be bold and keep the character deceased, leaving the character to only show up in flashbacks or visions.
