“Soon enough, these days will end.”

Bringing back Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, the series is a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One and will explore Andor’s backstory as he and other individuals become involved in the rebellion against the Empire. Returning Star Wars alumni include Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera and Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma. The pair starred alongside Luna in Rogue One, with the latter having a small, deleted part in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith.
Stars entering the realm of Star Wars for the first time include Chernobyl‘s Stellan Skarsgård, Morbius‘ Adria Arjona, Killing Eve‘s Fiona Shaw, 101 Dalmation Street‘s Kyle Soller and The Crown‘s Anton Lesser. All of their roles are currently undisclosed.
It has been stated than when we first meet Cassian in the series, he won’t be the hero who gave his life for the galaxy. The series will apparently explore him as more of a cynic before he fully aligns with the rebellion and fights for their cause.
It has also been rumoured that Ian McDiarmid may appear as Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious in some form during the show’s run. This is thanks to comments he made at the start of May. Though his comments could allude to Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has only aired three episodes at this point, it is a possibility. McDiarmid’s comments can be seen below:
There’s a certain show coming soon set right around the time I may have considered to be very active. Whether or not you will see my physical body, I cannot comment on. But you will certainly feel my presence.
The show’s first season will consist of 12 episodes, with the first two being released at the same time on August 31. This falls in line with the strategy eventually used for the two opening episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi. What’s more is that Andor is already cleared for a second season, which is due to begin filming before 2022 is out.
The show’s official premise can be read below:
“Beginning five years before the events of the film Rogue One (2016), the series follows an ensemble cast of characters during the time that a Rebel Alliance is forming in opposition to the Galactic Empire. One of these characters is Cassian Andor, a thief who becomes a revolutionary and eventually joins the Rebellion.“
Andor is set to hit Disney+ August 31.
