Joker Sequel Details Reportedly Surface

Enter Harley Quinn?
The Joker sequel, entitled Joker: Folie à Deux, may have only recently been announced to the world, but already rumours are beginning to swirl. These rumours from The Hollywood Reporter include a big casting announcement and the overall tone of the follow-up to the 2019 hit.
First off, Warner Bros. are reportedly in early talks with Oscar-nominee and eccentric music artist Lady Gaga for a role in the film. What role you ask? None other than Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn. If this is true, could the “Folie à Deux” in the title be referring to Joker and Quinn’s deranged entanglement?
Gaga and Phillips has worked together previously on 2018’s A Star is Born. Phillips worked as producer on the film with Gaga starring alongside Bradley Cooper in the lead roles. Could Phillips and Gaga’s working history hint at some truth behind this story?

But wait. There’s more! The Hollywood Reporter is also reporting that the film is to be a musical. Quite far from the gritty, Taxi Driver-esque character piece we got with the first film. Gaga’s involvement would lend a lot of sense to this idea, but hopefully the concept will translate well on screen.
Joker ticked a lot of boxes for Warner Bros. upon it’s release back in 2019. The film grossed $1 billion and earned 11 nominations at the Academy Awards in 2020. From that, the film walked away with two wins, consisting of Joaquin Phoenix for Best Actor and Hildur Gudnadottir for Best Score.
The film featured Phoenix in the title role, with supporting cast members including Hollywood legend Robert de Niro, Atlanta‘s Zazie Beetz, The Power of the Dog‘s Frances Conroy and True Detective‘s Brett Cullen. It is currently unknown if any of this cast, aside from Phoenix, will be returning in some way for the sequel.
Joker: Folie à Deux does not have a release date set currently.
